Public Speaking Success!

Coombe Boys’ School were celebrating their third success in the annual Rotary Club ‘Youth Speaks’ public speaking competition. This win is quite some achievement, considering no Kingston school, whether comprehensive, grammar or independent, has ever reached the district final stage of the competition and Coombe Boys’ is the first state comprehensive school to be printed on the cup; all the winners in the last 5 years either being  grammar or independent schools.  On the night, Coombe Boys’ fought off stiff competition from three independent schools, one of which had already won the district final in a previous year.

Pupils invent and innovate at Summer School!

Every year here at Coombe Boys' we run a three day event to welcome the new Year 7 pupils, all to help them make friends and get to know the school and teachers before their first week. This year pupils enjoyed a fun-packed trip to the Science Museum where they explored the new Wallace and Gromit ‘World of Cracking Ideas’ exhibition.  The exhibition got them thinking about how simple ideas had become life-changing inventions and encouraged them to get creative themselves.

A letter from Mrs Campbell

You may have read that Coombe Boys’, along with 637 others including another local school, has been placed on a list of so-called ‘failing’ schools by the Government.   I thought parents and others with an interest in the school would welcome a copy of the letter I have written to the Secretary of State for Education, Ed Balls, which challenges this.
