Anti-Racism Campaign

Last term Beverley School, New Malden, promoted anti-racism in sport by running a competition to design a logo and a slogan for the Kick it Out! Campaign.

The competition was a cross-curricular initiative between Mr Paliotta, Head of PE and Miss Wilson, Teacher in Charge of Media Studies.

Nationally the schools’ campaign was run in conjunction with events throughout October to celebrate Black History Month.

At a school level the campaign aimed to encourage young people in football to show respect for one another on, and off, of the pitch.

As a diverse, multi ethnic boys’ school Beverley have an excellent track history of football results against local schools.

On both a national and a professional level the kick it out campaign also aims to educate professional football players, their coaches and managers to treat everyone as equals and celebrate difference.

Beverley have been fortunate this year to have forged links with the nearby Fulham Football Academy.

The link reinforces that Football is an international sport for all communities no matter what colour you are.

The following Beverley pupils received prizes for their logo and slogan entries into the competition:

Runners up in each year received a disposable camera: Year 7: Frederik Mitev, Year 8: Ian Forster, Year 9: Bakhtiyar Ahmed.

3rd Prize won a new football: Adam de Libero
2nd Prize won a subscription to a football magazine of his choice: Simon Hayes
1ST Prize won a football kit for a team of his choice: James Clarke

Quote: “PE and sport are two popular subjects at Beverley and the competition proved to be a great success. The boys produced some great slogan and logo ideas. We will look forward to seeing more of the school getting involved next year”. (Mr Paliotta, Head of PE and co-competition organiser).
