Coombe Boys’ triumphant win at Rotary Youth Speaks Intermediate Public Speaking Competition!
It was with real trepidation that two teams of six pupils, all in Year 7 & 8 at Coombe Boys’, approached the Rotary Youth Speaks Intermediate Public Speaking Competition. This was to be Coombe Boys’ first entry into the competition and what a hugely successful first entry it was with Coombe Boys’ Team B taking home first prize, The Geoffrey Cole Memorial Challenge Trophy, and the opportunity to represent Kingston Borough in the next round of competition.
Team B (pictured with their Trophy) presented a speech entitled “Read the book before you judge it”. They were allowed 10 minutes of time allocated between the Chairperson, the speaker and the vote of thanks.
Competing against seven other teams it was a close call and the adjudicators took over twenty minutes to reach their verdict. Team B collected their trophy to cheers of delight from their supporters in the audience including staff, pupils and parents.
Congratulations to: Oliver Douch, James Gable, Jason Pollard, who are looking forward to the next round and the challenges which lie ahead.
And well done also to Team A : Patrick Hunt, Frederick Johnstone, Scott Robinson
