Headteacher Mr Smith said “We are very proud of our boys’ hard work and resilience. This is the first year that students have taken summer exams since 2019. It is therefore fantastic to see so many of our talented and highly-motivated boys in such a strong position to be successful in the next stage of their academic careers at the Coombe Sixth Form. I would like to take a moment to thank our staff, students and their families for their ongoing support and dedication during this time.”

Result Summary 2019

FABULOUS GCSE AND POST 16 RESULTS!

Building on a consistently strong and steady upward trend in academic performance, Coombe Boys’ School students and and staff are once again celebrating a year of excellent GCSE results.

We are delighted to report that for the summer examinations in 2019 students coped admirably with the challenges presented by new courses at GCSE level and post 16 and recorded the highest ever attainment at both key stages. We are especially pleased with boys performance in Mathematics, Science, Design Technology and Music at both GCSE and A’ level.

At GCSE Level our Mathematics results continue to be exceptional with 35% of entries being graded 9-7 (A-A**). 30% of students who studied Music achieved a grade 9 and 60% achieved a grade 9-7. In Physics 42% of students achieved a 9-7 grade and 38% of students in Chemistry and Biology also achieved this measure. The progress that students made in all subjects was significantly above the national average for boys.

These excellent results reflect the school’s accreditation with the NACE award (National Association of Able Children in Education) and demonstrates the expertise that has been developed within the school to provide the appropriate level of challenge and support for these talented learners.

At GCSE the overall 5 A*-C including English and Maths percentage was up again. Progress 8 and Attainment 8 scores currently stand as +0.24 and 48.9. 83% of students achieved a 9-4 grade in Mathematics and 77% in English. The percentage of students achieving the English Baccalaureate rose by 5% this year.

Students achieved above national average results for boys in all subjects and most notably in Mathematics, Computer Science and English Literature. We are proud of the increase in the overall 5 GCSE’s (9-4) including English and Mathematics results. Most importantly for us the progress that students made from entry to when they left has improved significantly with groups of learners making above expected progress.

Our KS3 results continue to be strong and courses are proving to prepare students for their GCSE courses well. We look forward to even better achievements next year as the new courses become further embedded and enhanced in the future.
