Music plays a large part in the life of the school in both curricular and extra-curricular activities. In class, students learn about music by singing, playing classroom instruments and listening to music; the theory of the subject is taught through these activities. At KS4, music may be studied to GCSE Level.

Students may learn/study a variety of instruments. Lessons are timetabled on a rota system during the school day. Individual instrumental and vocal tuition is available at Coombe Boys’ through the Kingston Music Service. For further details and to apply please click here or see below.
Extra-curricular music is thriving at Coombe with pupils develop their skills in ensembles including Choirs, federated orchestra, rock bands, a cappella and music tech/keyboard club. Live music performances take place regularly during the school year including Carols By Candlelight Service at Christchurch, Cluster Concert at the Rose Theatre, Kingston Music Service Singing Festival, whole school production and the very popular annual Inter-house Music Competition. The federated a cappella group ‘Vox’ have also recently won a place at the Voice Festival UK finals in Birmingham. There have been several trips which include watching ‘Showstoppers!’ Improvised musical, GCSE conferences and Wicked!
