Y10 Work Experience

As part of the Year 10 curriculum (Key Stage 4), an opportunity is provided for pupils to experience a week in the world of work. This will take place from 10th - 14th February 2020.

This period of work experience is a key part of the pupil's educational programme. There will be thorough preparation and supervision whilst on the placement. Further work after the placement will enable the student to gain as much as possible from the experience. Work experience is about learning new skills and new ideas to do with the world of work. It is important that you go on a placement that you are interested in. However it is better not to restrict yourself just to a job that you think you want to do in the future as you may find it is not possible to do this job at this time.

When you apply for a job, college or training place, people are far more interested in the skills and attitudes that you have picked up on work experience. They are not bothered about where you went. For example, the ability to work as part of a team or to be able to communicate your ideas both in writing and in speech, is far more important to a university tutor recruiting law students, that the fact that you had your work experience in a solicitors’ office.
