Coombes Boys School

Year 7 students discover "Beetle Boy"

Our Year 7 students have had an exciting start to their secondary school careers by having numerous subjects infuse the novel ‘Beetle Boy’ into their lessons and active tutorials as a project based learning topic. Within English, we used M.G. Leonard’s poem ‘The Billion Bug Road’ together to inspire the students to write their own bug poems which are on display throughout the English department. By having all Year 7 students and staff read the novel before coming to Coombe in September, it allowed us all to have a basis of conversation and sense of community. Well done to everyone that read the novel and thank you to the departments for contributing to this wonderful project. We are delivering this project in conjunction with Kingston University and it is intended to be a very prominent introduction to reading and literacy skill development at secondary school.
