Exciting school rebuild approved, paving the way for a modern, welcoming, and sustainable learning environment.
We are pleased to announce that Coombe Boys' School is going to be undergoing some exciting changes. Our old building stock is to be replaced with a new main school building along with a sports and performing arts centre. The new layout will create even more outside space for our students and will transform the learning environment for all students and staff.
Benefits
- Modern, welcoming, sustainable school
- Enables savings on running costs
- Transformation of the learning environment for students and staff
- Improved department organisation and increased useable outdoor space
- High quality architectural design reflecting our aims and ethos
- Landscape design that carefully considers surronding properties and community use
- Welcoming layout to support community use outside of school hours
The layout of the site has been the key consideration in the planning of the regeneration of Coombe Boys' and includes the following elements:
- Retention of the majority of trees, with further tree planting and improved 'urban greening factor' across the school site.
- Entrance plaza with wider path, pedestrian guarding and improved pedestrian and cycle routes into the social learning spaces.
- External sports facilities including football pitch, running track, 100m sprint track, long jump, table tennis tables, three court MUGA and basketball.
- Positioning of new buildings frees up more space for hard and soft landscaped areas, increasing the usable external space by circa 1100sqm).
- New sports and performing arts block will shield outdoor spaces from A3 noise and pollution.
